GREAT NEWS….. I am home. I have joined Will of Chicago, IL and am loving life at my new home. I share a yard with a good K-9 friend and enjoy long walks/runs with my new dad.

Hi my name is Jewel and I hail from the beautiful country Armenia. I arrived into the Chicago area to find my forever home in June 2021. I am told my name is fitting because I am like a shiny beautiful jewel.

I am a sweet girl who gets along well with other dogs and people.  I am potty trained, leash trained and crate trained.  I would love the chance to show you what a good girl I am.

Here is my rescue story as written by my rescuer, Ruzik.  Thanks in advance for reading about me.

I had quite a difficult life with my ex owners. Now, when I am writing this story I still feel pain. When I had family they would also keep my tied with leash. I was small and I was getting bigger day by day and my owners would not notice and understand that the leash is already small for me. You know growing is something you can’t control. So the metal leash was already stuck in my skin. I was struggling it was so painful.. I could barely breathe. It’s so great that one day the rescue team came and helped me…they took me from my ex owners to hospital and helped me get rid of that metal. Imagine that leash becomes part of your body. I took the necessary treatment in hospital and now I am feeling great. I am living in Wadsworth, IL with my foster family, but I need real home. I am very friendly, loving and playful …. oh yes and I love food! I’ve been told this is my big chance to find my people.

Armenia is a country in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia. The country has many things to be proud of, however stray dogs are one of the weakest points of Armenia. Unfortunately, killing is the main method of controlling the number of stray dogs instead of  sterilizing them as should be done. To show how cruel is the situation, from 2015-2017 only in one of the small cities in Armenia 275 dogs were killed.  There is no law regulating how animals should be treated, only a few separate articles in different codes, like the Code of Administrative Offenses. Well, in most of the parks it is even prohibited to walk the dogs. Hopefully the current government will try to change the situation, however change happens slowly and until that time comes, many thousands of Armenian dogs will be killed and continue to suffer on the streets.

There is a company, which was awarded a government contract to solve the stray dog problem.  The Yerevan Municipality continues to pay the same company millions to take care of stray dogs in the Armenian capital. However, nothing changes. Animal rights activists in Armenia have long claimed that the company who was awarded the contract isn’t doing its job properly and that the municipality continues to squander taxpayer money by awarding contracts to Unigraf-X.
