KUTMAN…. Kutman is HOME. He joined Kim and Simonne of Decatur, IL yesterday. From the rough streets of Istanbul as mere pups to the loving home of Kim and Simonne. What an amazing journey … Filled with ups and downs but ultimately ending in Happy Ever After.

Kutman now has a wonderful and very handsome Getman Sheppard brother named Gear who is amazingly well behaved and knows over 80 commands. Yes his mom Simonne is something of a dog whisperer.

Kim and Simonne could not have been more excited to meet Kutman and take him home. Kutman already started to follow Kim around in a very loving and affectionate way as if he knew that was his new mom. smile emoticon

Such joy and happiness of wonderful new beginnings!!!

Thanks to all who made this possible and most importantly thanks to Kim and Simonne for welcoming Kutman into their hearts and home!

Diane, Yalin, and Anne are in foster to adopt homes.  Stay tuned.

Pre-Adoption Post

Three cuter dogs could not be found.  They are siblings – just 12 months old and look like little Anatolian Sheppards.  Kutman, Yalin, and Diane were born to a street dog named, Anne in Istanbul, Turkey.  Anne was found pregnant, just a young dog herself, with her ears cut off, bloody and malnourished.  Lucky for her Aysin Even Gnaegi came across Anne and couldn’t leave her on the streets in her condition.  Aysin has since moved heavens and earth to make sure mom and her eventual pups were safe.  This was no small feat and took a toll on her and her family in many ways. But she was determined which just goes to show what is possible when one feels passionately about something.  Over 12 months later and the little family is about to embark on a journey which will hopefully result in them finding their happiness.  Aysin and family are actually traveling from Istanbul to Chicago with them on April 9th.  Mom and her 3 pups are in search of their forever homes.  They are all friendly, loving, and playful yet with a calm demeanor.  Anne (means mom in Turkish), the mom is young too… just 1.5 years old and incredibly sweet.

Although they look like Anatolian Sheppards they are actually much smaller than pure breeds weighing between 50 and 60 pounds.

Rescue Story

Aysin is an animal lover from Istanbul. One day she found a mama dog on the road; her ears were cut of, bloody, pregnant and starving. No one knows how she ended up on the streets and who cut her ears but Aysin knew she had to help the mother dog, however could not find a place to keep the mama, so decided to feed her and care for her while she is still on the street by the forest, and till Aysin finds away to rescue her.

Aysin regularly feeds the street dogs and on one of these days she found the mama had given birth but she couldn’t find the pups. It took Aysin some time to find those pups and tragically before she could bring the 5 pups to safety, 2 were stolen to be used for dog fights, so only three left from a litter of five. Aysin took the mama and the 3 remaining pups to safety, she boarded them in a pet hotel and visited them regularly.  She paid for their boarding, food, and medical care.

Street dogs and mixed breeds in Turkey have close to no luck in finding homes.  No one is interested in adopting mutts; culturally they are the unwanted dogs. People prefer pure breeds; they buy them from breeders or pet shops who breed or import from overseas. Even the pure breeds often end up on the streets though after people decide they are too much work or are not as cute as they were when pups and leave them to fend for themselves on the streets.  Sadly they are often tossed out as if they are an inanimate object of no value and no feelings.  People do like Anatolian shepherds but again must be pure breeds. With her facebook connections and coming across International Street Dog foundation she decided to fly the family to Chicago. Aysin has worked so hard for 12 months to ensure their safety, she has feared for their safety, worked hard to move them in safe places while funding their care and boarding.  Aysin is dedicated to seeing these precious dogs live happy lives!

The Mama “ANNE” (literal translation in Turkish) is very mellow, shy and introvert; she needs attention because she went through a lot. She is spayed and in good health with no ears though.  She is smaller than her pups and very young around 1.5 years old, 23 kilos – 50 pounds.  She doesn’t ask for a lot and would make an excellent companion.  She has seen a lot of hardship and can be shy around new people but her trust continues to build.

The pups are 1 year old. 1 female and 2 males

DIANE; she is the big sister (literally… ha ha!) 27 kilos – 59 pounds

She is a mellow girl who absolutely adores people and generally good with other dogs although she is more alpha and sometimes gets a little jealous if her brothers are getting all the attention.  She may do best in an only dog home or in a home with a submissive dog. She is the largest and has the lightest coloring of the three siblings.

YALIN is his name.  24 kilos – 52 pounds

He is a very sweet playful young boy, the quiet one of his liter.  He loves to be around people and asks for affection often.  He is good with other dogs.

KUTMAN is his name.  24 kilos – 52 pounds

He is the calmest of all three pups and as sweet as can be.  He is the one with the most black in his face giving him an adorably handsome boyish face.  He is wonderful with people and other dogs.
