GREAT NEWS! Stephan is HOME!
Stephan joined Hester Lee of Chicago yesterday. Stephan was rescued from the streets of New Delhi, India. Stephan was so ready for his own family…. he craved for human attention and to be center of someone’s life. His prayers were answered today. Hester came to meet him and as suspected he laid on the charm and melted her heart.
Thank you Premlata Choudhary and Susan Johnson Nelson for rescuing Stephan and working so hard to ensure he had a better future. Thank you Hester opening your heart and home to Stephan and for saving a life!
Stefan’s rescue story as written by his rescuer.
In December 2016, Stefan was rescued off of the streets of Shanti Niketan, an affluent neighborhood in New Delhi, when he was about 2 months old. One morning, a neighbor heard a dog being attacked by other street dogs and found this little puppy cornered by the other dogs that had already claimed the territory. She and her sons (who gave him the name Stefan), allowed him to live outside in their small yard. He was very sweet, friendly, and playful with the kids and was doing well living in the yard. After two months, unfortunately, he became tall enough to jump the low fence surrounding the yard and he began wandering around the apartment complex, something the other occupants did not like. The neighbor was left with no option but to put Stefan back out on the street and he was attacked by the same street dogs. My wife found him one morning cowering under a car, tail between his legs, terrified by the territorial dogs. My family decided to foster him until we could find him a good permanent home. We would love to keep him. Sadly, our apartment is not suitable for a dog. We have no outdoor space and any walks we take outside go through the same gauntlet of street dogs. Stefi is a sweet companion and will make a great pet! He just needs a good home. He is crate trained. He is current on vaccinations, neutered, and is micro-chipped.
Strengths:
Sweet disposition with adults and children
Very mellow (once acclimated to his surroundings)
Loyal (he took to us very quickly)
VERY GOOD on a leash
Sleeps through the night
Not a chewer – except for bones and toys… 😉
Does not appear to be much of a shedder
Very smart (easily learned sit and stay)Unfortunately, in India Desi (street) dogs are not viewed as pet worthy dogs by most people. Overseas adoption is usually their only hope of a better life.
