Today was a magical day. Zuzu went HOME! ZuZu is a rescue from Turkey who suffered massive injuries from being run over by a car. She nearly died and then was at risk for euthanization at a Turkish Shelter. She came to ISDF as a last chance.
She joined Kate Birch and her daughter Zoe yesterday. And the angels in heaven rejoiced.
Many tears were shed yesterday by me and her rescuers in Turkey. For she needed a special adopter who could overlook her disfigurement from the accident and physical impairment. These adopters don’t come around often. Everyone was worried. For a sweeter girl could not be found and her eyes pierced ones soul with love and gentleness.
And then Kate and Zoe came to visit – they came to meet another dog and fell in love with ZuZu. Zoe said she wanted to adopt a dog that needed her the most. To hear these words from such a young person gives me renewed faith in humanity.
ZuZu climbed in Zoe’s lap and gave kisses as if thanking her in advance. ZuZu and their dog Rosie got along well from the get go.
This adoption has significant meaning for me and many others. No words.
Thank you to Fey Rubeyi for making this all possible. Most importantly thank you to Kate and Zoe for making ZUZu’s dreams come true.
You too can save a life.

Zuzu’s Rescue Story
Do you know the famous movie lines about “Zuzu’s petals?” Just like Zuzu’s flower petals – which magically reappeared in her pocket after an angel helped her father – my life magically reappeared after some angels rescued me from certain death. You might not believe that magic is possible, but I am another amazing street dog who proves that it is!
Last November, I was a pup trying to survive on the streets in Sakarya, Turkey. I faced continuous abuse from the citizens nearby because they did not like dogs. When I was five months-old, a car drove over me. I don’t know if it was a purposeful act, but I am very thankful that memories of that time in my life are blurry. All four – yes, all four – of my legs were broken when the car hit me. My tail was even broken. I was thrown to the side of the street. I was essentially dead. My first angel was a compassionate person who took me to a local shelter. Although I was off the road, I refused to eat. I was so tired and in pain. My spirit was broken, just like my body.
My next two angels found me there at the shelter. In addition to my broken bones, I was starving. These amazing people took me to a vet in Istanbul where he offered to put me to sleep. My rescuers looked at me and looked at each other her. They refused the vet’s offer, and they took me home. Wow. What incredible generosity and love they poured over me! They cared for me during every step of my recovery. I went through many operations and received lots of support, including physical therapy. One of my rescuers, Fey, wrote, “We won the fight, and now she is in fabulous health. She even runs like a bullet!!”
It’s true! Not only have I made a total recovery, I am a great young dog. I am nine months-old, spayed, and vaccinated. I absolutely love playing with people – kids, too! I am very calm and sweet with children. Fey said that I am “great” with other dogs and cats; I enjoy playing and running with any creature! I have a high energy level when I’m outside. In the house, I am quiet, submissive, and calm. I’m doing well riding in the car and walking on the leash. I am crate-trained and potty-trained, and I am eager to learn commands and tricks. My other rescuer, Cina, thinks that I would be an awesome companion to any family.
I am an incredible survivor, and I can’t wait to be spoiled and loved in your arms… forever!
