Hi my name is Mic Mac and I need to find a new home. I have been with my mom for about a year now and she has some health issues so once again I am searching for my home. I am fostered in Wadsworth, IL and am a very low maintenance, well behaved, and beautiful boy.
You know the nursery rhyme that goes “MicMac paddywhack, give the dog a home”? Well that’s me, MicMac, a 3 year old Desi dog from New Delhi arrived in Chicago last year. I was lucky to be adopted right away but now I must look for a new home.
My rescuer found me hanging out with a street dog group of 13 puppies and their mamas. Out of all of us, I was the only outgoing, friendly dog; the rest would hide or bark when our feeder Patricia came by. My ear had been notched, which meant I was a neutered street dog, not someone’s pet, but Patricia could tell from my easy-going confidence that people had cared for me as a street baby—I have happy memories of those times. Patricia nicknamed me Handsome (I’m just stating a fact when I say I am), and thought I’d be safe where I was.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t safe enough, and got hit by a car last February, badly dislocating my hip. By the time Patricia found me, and took me to Dr. Choudhary’s clinic for X-rays, I needed surgery. A wonderful orthopedic vet who came all the way from Mubai, 900 miles away, was able to operate and save me from a lifetime of pain. I went home with Patricia for rest and recuperation, and I have been there since—Patricia says I’m too sweet of a boy to go back to the street. My leg and hip healed perfectly thanks to Patricia and now I’m just about good as new, which is great!
I’m now known as Monsieur MicMac. I walk very nicely on a leash, understand both English and French (Patricia’s first language), and can be left alone at home without chewing on anything. I take food from people’s hands with delicacy, and have been happy on dry food. Patricia appreciates how cooperative I am taking pills, and my overall gentle, happy manner. Life as a house dog suits me, and I love sleeping on the sofa whenever I get the chance. I’ve been living with Patricia’s other fosters, but mostly just play with the little puppy named Oops, the other dogs just haven’t interested me. I am now fostered in Wadsworth, IL with Dawn and all of her other fosters. I get along well with all the other dogs and am generally a sweet, gentle boy who is very low maintenance. I love to spend time outside sunbathing in the yard. I help Dawn by training the pups who come through her house.
I’ve gotten quite attached to my fosterers; I get sad each time they leave, and so excited when they come home. They’ve told me how much they will miss me, but promise me I will soon have the happily ever after I deserve.
One, two, my dream’s coming true, MicMac is the one for you!

Desi (day-see) dogs live on the city and village streets of India, with an estimated 400,000 in the capital Delhi, alone. Also called Indian Native Dogs or Pariah Dogs, these dogs have changed little over many hundreds of years. Desi dogs are highly intelligent, alert, good-looking, athletic, and full of character. Many urban Desi dogs have recent European breed ancestry too, along with sighthound sleekness and speed.
Few Indians see Desi dogs as suitable pets, opting instead for expensive and ill-suited European purebred dogs. It’s a great irony that more resilient and regal-looking native Indian dogs often have to travel internationally to find loving homes. Most of the Desi dogs that ISDF places could not survive on Indian streets due to early orphaning or injury, or have been rescued from especially threatening situations.
