GREAT NEWS!! Bear has found his fur-ever home. His new mom and dad – Geoff Trudeau and Tarin Lorenz of Milwaukee, WI are thrilled to have this beautiful boy as their new family member.  It was an easy decision for them – Bear came to great them with tail wagging and freely gave out kisses as the entered the back yard.  I don’t think his tail ever stopped wagging.  They took him for a walk and gave out treats.  The bonded was complete on both sides and they were soon heading home together.  The start of a wonderful new life.

Tarin had contacted me over a month ago with interest in Bear.  Unfortunately Bear’s planned flight was not to be as the flight volunteer who was lined up to take Bear to Chicago canceled.  Bear finally arrived this Thursday with flight volunteer Emel Ceylan who despite her father being ill and in the hospital made the long journey to deliver 3 dogs safely to the USA where all 3 will be given second chances to live fulfilled lives.  Bear was fortunate Tarin and Geoff were patiently waiting for him despite the setback on timing.  Today Bear’s happy ever-after starts……..and I have no doubt he will have an amazing life with his new parents.

Thank you to Bendegul Karadag for rescuing sweet Bear and to Fey Rubeyi for working so hard to give Bear a second chance.  As always it is through the efforts of many that these miracles happen.  Most importantly thank you to Geoff and Tarin for opening your hearts and homes to this sweet dog.

This is Bear’s story:
I am “BEAR” I look like a bear but have a heart of bird. I was in horrible shape when I was found on the streets of Istanbul. I was very beat, dogs on every street were attacking me, and I had many bites on my head and back. Yes I do have big ears, ears that are willing to listen with joy to any human affection and care.

My savior in a fancy neighborhood “Şişli” found me. I was emaciated and ill, that I wasn’t able to walk nor move. I was lying down on the sidewalk only with my eyes had the chance to seek for help. She carried me to the Rehabilitation Center were all animals can be taken care of there by the city municipals. My savior came there every day and she watched me get better. I did not mind all the poking, endless needles and medication. I knew it, it was it I was and I will be in safe hands. There I get to see and feel the human affection and love, I never knew that there would be good people out there. After a while of staying there, she took to a pet pension where I met so many dogs and other nice people.

I am a wonderful boy, who loves to play and run, I have to admit I have some energy, but I get tired very soon, I know how to walk on a leash and I love people and other dogs. Not sure about cats, you should try me and see for yourself. I never bark nor growl; I don’t know what that word means. I am 1,5 years old and I still feel like I’m puppy, I remember when I was with humans when I was puppy and I remember when they threw me out on the streets, and because I did not enjoy my puppy life in fullest, I still have that puppy spirit in me.

My savior wasn’t able to find me my forever home but promised me after I take a long trip to Chicago.

I am wonderful with children I love them very much. I am fixed and all my shots are complete, I have no health problems, I can play and run with you till the end.

There is a major conflict in the animal life in Turkey. Many people do care and love for their street animals, and many don’t. There is no balance in between; the life of those animals is either black or white. Dogs do get hurt on the streets, kids hurt them, and cars run over them, additionally weather conditions, hunger and illness. Many dogs can’t make it the first year. This painful life of the streets ends when a good person shows mercy and care. The life of the dogs is in the hands of these people. Some people spend most of their income for the care of these animals. City municipals do take them and gives them minor care and do not perform operations. If the dog is injured, the person who brought the dog must take it to a pet clinic and pay for the operation. Some veterinary clinics do give discounts on these pricy operations, however most demand the full price. Animal lovers spend days and months collecting donations from individuals through Facebook or twitter.  Animal lovers do work hard to save and care for these animals.

Bear has his bags packed and is ready to travel… however our flight volunteer just fell through and so we are desperately looking for a new flight volunteer.  If you are planning to travel from Istanbul to Chicago and willing to take a dog with you (in cargo) please contact Dawn at 414-426-4148.  You could save a life today.
