GREAT NEWS…. Brisi is HOME!! Brisi was born on the rough streets of Albania – today she is a cherished daughter of Katy Scott of Chicago, IL
This picture says it all!! The joy of a perfect union. Katy and Brisi were meant to be together! Brisi is the last of our 4 Albanian rescues to find her home. ISDF recently kicked off a new partnership with Animals Need Me rescue in Albania and I hope that we can help many more Albanian rescues in the future. No words can describe the love and dedication Of this hard working organization.
Katy is good friends with Marvin – Finn’s dad (formerly known as Ghazal). Finn and Brisi will have lots of play dates in the future and I know a lifetime of happiness awaits Brisi! Nothing could make me happier as Brisi is one of the most deserving dogs I can imagine. Despite her rough past she just exudes pure joy.
Katy will make the BEST mom and is already showering her with much needed love. Ahhhhh …. the dream of every dog. The dream so few street dogs around the world will ever know.
You too can save a life.

Stare into my captivating amber eyes and feel my pure heart’s desire: I want to come home with you! My name is Brisi and I am a 2 1/2 year old girl from Shkodra, Albania, lovely inside and out. I’ve been told that my life is about to change in ways I can’t even imagine!
My story starts with a hard thud, when I was thrown from the window of a car. It would have ended there too, if two tourists hadn’t witnessed this and rushed me to a special woman named Izabela. Izabela took me in and cared for my wounds. Just when I thought my luck had changed, I became gravely ill with parvo. I suffered so much! After many days taking fluids and antibiotics I pulled through, with help from my beloved nurse Izabela.
When I was fully recovered, Izabela brought me to the shop where she worked. I was very happy to hang out and greet the customers every day. One carefree afternoon, I set out after an interesting smell and lost my way. A young guy saw me and thought I would make a good guard dog. He took me home with him and cut my ears to make me look like a pitbull, but soon discovered that it was not in my nature to be tough. He threw me back out on the street, and I wandered for months until I finally found our shop. After a full year apart, my reunion with Izabela was the best day of my life! I thought I could settle back into my routine at the shop, but Izabela worried I would get lost again, so she brought me to her friend Oli’s shelter where she knew I’d be safe.
At the shelter I’ve I met so many new friends. Each of them has a painful story. Although people have let me down so many times, I am still a trusting girl. Oli says I am intelligent, social, and sweet. Whenever a shelter volunteer or visitor comes, I press up against the fencing to capture their attention. Many people have been interested in me but none of them seemed just right; Izabela and Oli feel I deserve a very special family after all of the challenges I have faced and overcome. When Oli had a chance to send two dogs to find good homes in America, I was so excited to find out that she picked me!
I wonder what my new family will be like. I love men and women, kids and other dogs and I’m an active but easy-going girl. I could be happy in many different living situations, as long as I’m loved. I will be arriving in Chicago on May 2. Oli and Izabela say it’s my time to shine—let me be your dog and your sun!

There are thousands of street dogs in Albania, many of whom were abandoned by their families. Everywhere you look, there are mistreated, poisoned, diseased and malnourished dogs left to die in the streets, or used for dog fighting. The situation is desperate but not widely known because Albania is a small country with little exposure to foreign travelers. The government does not devote resources to spay/neuter or vaccination, so the problem has escalated. The Albanian people, who for decades suffered through oppressive governmental regimes, see the dogs as a nuisance or worse, and abuse is far too common.
Oli’s animal advocacy group, Animals Need Me (http://www.animalsneedmeal.com/), is based in the city of Shkodra, Albania. It was founded by devoted animal lovers who have organized spay/neuter efforts, and seek to find loving local homes for former street dogs. They are sometimes able to find homes for the puppies, but few locals want to adopt grown dogs. To house the dogs who don’t find homes, they built a small shelter, but the budget is tight, and feeding dozens of dogs is expensive. In hopes of freeing up space in the shelter for more needy dogs, they want to find homes in the U.S. for some of their friendliest residents.
