GREAT NEWS… Fluffy is home! Fluffy is a rescue from the streets of Muscat, Oman. Just days after arriving in Chicago Fluffy joined Martin Ridge and his partner of Chicago, IL.

Fluffy reminded Martin of his precious dog who had passed away both in personality and appearance. And well it’s safe to say it was love at first sight. Martin knew.

Thank you to Nada El Moosa and Varsha Karnik of Omani Paws for making this dream a reality for this very lucky guy.

You too can save a life …. www.istreetdog.com

Fluffy’s Rescue Story

Yes, I am fluffy… AND friendly and happy!  Most importantly, I am lucky.  I’m a pup from Oman who almost did not survive my very rough start to life.

I am now seven months-old, but I was rescued four months ago.  A compassionate person notified a rescue group about my situation.  I was wearing a chain and heavy lock on my neck.  The neighborhood boys had spent many days dragging me around and beating me up.  My “home” was near a dumpster where I had access to scraps and trash.  It was a cruel, sad, meager existence until that kind person cared enough for my safety.  It’s amazing, though, the resilience of animals to overcome trauma.  You would never know that I was a former street dog!  My foster mom says that I am a “fuss-free, wise, and calm” boy who she has totally enjoyed fostering.

I am a nice, well-behaved pup with an easy temperament.  I am more on the submissive side, but I also have good confidence.  I am fabulous with dogs and cats because I live with over 20 of them!  My training on the leash and with basic commands is going well, and I’m potty-trained.  I have minimal experiences interacting with children, but my foster mom thinks I will be an awesome companion for kids.  Inside the house, I am a calm, loving boy, and I like to play with my toys.  I know how to find a cozy spot and rest, too.

I hope that you are excited to meet me.  I am ready to begin the next chapter of my life with my Forever Family.  Let’s snuggle soon!

Oman is an Arab country in the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula.  It has wonderful national treasures, vivid landscapes… and thousands of “wadi” – or street – dogs.  These wadi dogs can be seen virtually everywhere.  Unfortunately, they face the same plight as dogs in many Muslim countries where they are generally viewed as unclean and not fit to be pets.  Dog ownership is rare, and when they are owned, dogs are usually not allowed in the house.  Pets are viewed more commonly as guard dogs who roam the outside vicinity of the property.  The government doesn’t have humane animal welfare laws, and, worse yet, police have open rights to shoot “any and all” street dogs.  There is no requirement that the dogs have to be a nuisance or sick; rather, they will be killed just for having the unfortunate luck of being born on the streets in Oman.  It is a common practice.  Many wadi dogs suffer a slow, painful death caused by festering gunshot wounds.  If a gunshot does not kill them, street dogs die of disease, starvation, abuse by people, vehicles, and extreme weather conditions.  In the summer, the temperature can easily soar to 120 degrees Fahrenheit.  Most Omani street dogs do not survive beyond the age of three.
