Hi, there! I’m Goji! You may have seen my siblings’ appeals for homes on this website or Facebook. Well let me tell you, I’m the last and the best one of the whole bunch! I’m a strikingly beautiful desi girl from Gurgaon, India ready for love and adventure, and just as goji berries are a superfood, Goji-Puppy is a superdog, ready to change your life for the better!

I’ve been told several times that I have magical eyes that make people fall in love with me instantly. Haute couture ears and kohl-shaded cheeks complete my singular look (yes, I did learn a little while chewing up Vogue magazines!) Truth be told, my outer elegance masks a silly, attention-seeking and playful soul. My mischievous antics will bring a smile to your face, and your smiling face will bring me back for more cuddles!

Maybe I crave fun because my mama suffered so much to get me and my siblings here. Are you interested in the tale of my birth? Last November, my dearest Mama met with a terrible accident when she was pregnant with me and my siblings. My fairy-godmother, Jyoti, found her unconscious and barely clinging to life and rushed her to Gurgaon’s veterinary emergency hospital. Doctors worked hard to save her, and while she regained consciousness after six hours, skull fractures and a dislocated jaw kept her in critical care for several days. With the help of amazing human beings, my mama started showing massive improvement and healed almost miraculously! That’s when the doctors found out she is pregnant with us.

Jyoti was able to bring my mama home. After a monthlong recuperation under Jyoti’s loving care, my mama gave birth to six beautiful, healthy puppies, including me! In spite of all she’d been through, Hope is a wonderful mama, and when we were little she always kept us warm and our bellies full. Once we were old enough, our fairy-godmother Jyoti began looking for homes. She advertised on dozens of social media sites and brought us to adoption drives, but despite her persistence, no suitable adopters wanted lowly, local street dogs.

So in India we’ve remained homeless, though safe under Jyoti’s foster care. Jyoti had partnered with ISDF before, and after contacting Dawn with our story, we found out we would be flying to Chicago, en route to American homes! My siblings Obi, Pinto, and Sriracha arrived in Chicago last month, and now my mama, my brother Kenzi, and my sister Sugar are joining them!

Jyoti says there are loving forever families for each of us in Chicagoland, for sure, so I’ve been balancing puppy play with the serious work of preparing to meet my new family. I have a big head start on my house- and leash-training, and I’ve been learning to enjoy my new crate. Positive reinforcement is definitely the way to learn for me! Bring on the praise and treats! Patience and a good sense of humor will come in handy too. I’ve been spayed, all my vaccinations are up to date, and my microchip is in place. I hope you realize that your life has been missing one thing: me!

Desi (day-see) dogs live on the city and village streets of India, with an estimated 400,000 in the capital Delhi, alone. Also called Indian Native Dogs or Pariah Dogs, these dogs have changed little over thousands of years. Desi dogs are highly intelligent, alert, good-looking, athletic, and full of character. Many urban Desi dogs have recent European breed ancestry too, along with sighthound sleekness and speed. It’s ironic that these incredibly adaptable, resilient, regal dogs have to look outside India to find adoptive homes, while status-conscious Indians buy “purebred” foreign dogs ill-suited the climate and conditions.
