Haddi’s Story
Sweet little Haddi is one of three survivors of a litter of New Delhi pups that were rescued by fosterers extraordinaire, Sonia Heller and her family. Rocky and Jimmy, the other two survivors are also living in the Chicago area. He arrived to the USA on Friday, November 13th, 2015. He was adopted right away but now needs a new home as his family is moving and can’t take him with them.
Here, Haddi’s story in his foster mom Sonia Heller’s own words:
“Once upon a time, they were four. Four lovely furry puppies – enjoying life, playing together under the protection of their loving mom.
It was January of 2015 when we met this little family at the side of the road. And every time we went to a nearby veterinary clinic with one of our dogs or fosters, we stopped to see how they were doing, knowing that things can change in a heartbeat here and very few pups survive into adulthood.
Finally, searching frantically the following day, we discovered them hiding inside a run-down, abandoned house.
These were NOT the pups we had seen, even just a few days before. They were exhausted, without energy, unable to stand up or move when we approached them.
Their mother was gone – we never did see her again. Present were just a handful of adult male dogs who were paying no attention whatsoever to the sickly, needy pups.
We took them straight to the early clinic to seek diagnosis and treatment. Sure enough, three of them were suffering from deadly parvovirus. Only one pup was pronounced clear, so we named him Rocky (after the boxer!) for being strong and healthy, despite all odds.
It took Haddi and Jimmy two weeks of intensive care to recover. And tragically, one little brother – sweet Max – could not overcome the deadly disease and succumbed.
However, with intensive treatment and TLC, three weeks later, Haddi and Jimmy were declared out of danger. Six weeks after their ordeal had begun, they were released from the clinic and finally reunited with their beloved brother, Rocky.
Things are not always as they seem, however, and Haddi not only survived, but ultimately truly THRIVED, growing into a strong, healthy (he is a real food lover!), happy, and tranquil little boy.
Haddi has become the first dog at the farm to greet us every morning! He still likes a bit of time to get used to new people, but is fabulous once he gets to know them, and is wonderful with other dogs, happily greeting new playmates
