Jasmine is a 2 year old, 26-lb, spayed female whom we believe is part fox terrier. Although she has many desi (Indian street dog) characteristics, her look and small size is strikingly unusual for the New Delhi streets. Her personality also betrays her past – she must have been someone’s companion at some point, as she is simply no candidate for life on the streets.
Was she a family pet who was abandoned? She certainly acts the part…Jasmine had never been seen before in ISDF friend Isobel’s area, and then suddenly, one night – there she was. A little tri-colored dog, being terrorized by a pack of street dogs. Isobel came to her rescue, plucking her off the street and transporting her to Dr. Choudhary’s vet clinic for spay surgery. Later, sweet Jasmine was transferred to Happy Paws, where she boarded with lovely ISDF friend Arti and displayed more house dog characteristics: she enjoys sitting in an office chair, just like a human!
Earlier this month, Jasmine moved into foster care with the kind-hearted Mishra family. They report that Jasmine is an absolute doll with their children, including their youngest who is only 5 years old. Although she understandably remains nervous about other dogs after her street experiences, she can acclimatize to them if given time and space. But her real love and joy is to seek affection from humans! Her foster family reports that she walks beautifully on leash, is completely housebroken, loves to play, and above all else – wants only to spend time with people.
We are thrilled to be welcoming Jasmine to the USA , and excited to help her find what she has always been looking for – a loving forever family she can finally call her very own!
Jasmine is currently In a foster home in the Chicago area
