GREAT NEWS…. Lara is HOME!

Lara is a Street dog from Tunisia. She joined Keli and Alex Shimko of Alain IL yesterday!

Lara is one of the most sweet loving dogs you will ever meet and today she joined one of the most wonderful families that one could ask for. Both Keli and Alex were so loving towards Lara and listened attentively and asked such wonderful questions. It is clear they want the BEST for sweet Lara and will do everything they can to give her the BEST life.

Thank you to Azza and Yasmine of Yasmin Azaiez Animal Rescue for working tirelessly to give Lara and countless others a chance to live a fulfilled life and to be sparred the suffering of the street. You are my heros.

Most importantly thank you to Keli and Alex for making Lara’s dreams come true!

You too can save a life!

Lara’s Rescue Story

Calm, cool, and collected… that’s me!  I am a darling 3 year-old rescued dog from Tunisia.  If you want a quiet, easy, well-behaved lady in your life, I’m your girl!  I will be traveling to the U.S. soon to find my Forever Family, but let me tell you about my rescue.

My previous owner decided that he had enough of me.  One day, he drove me to the highway.  He opened the car, and he threw me out.  Then, he drove away.  At that very moment – an incredibly lucky moment! – a woman drove by and witnessed my abandonment.  This compassionate person stopped and scooped me up.  I was bruised and terrified, but I could sense her sympathy for my situation.  She called the Yasmine Azaiez Animal Rescue, and this wonderful group took me under its care.  I was vaccinated and spayed and given a lot of hugs and attention.  Wow, did I love it!  My soul is healed.  The doctors believe that prior to my rescue I had long exposure to the sun; perhaps I was tied upon a rooftop for hours on-end.  Thankfully, I don’t remember, but this sun exposure probably led to an untreated eye infection.  The result was a condition called Keratite Pigmentaire.  I can see well, though so no need to worry.

My foster mom says that I am a “very gentle, very kind, very quiet” dog who would do best with a peaceful family.  I need an average level of exercise.  I like children, other dogs, and cats, but I prefer respectful friends that allow me some personal space.  I am well-behaved in the house and have received basic training on the leash.  I am good in the car and excellent at the vet.  Outside, I enjoy resting in the garden and appreciating the world go by!  I hope to meet you soon, so we watch the world go by… together!

Tunisia is an unlucky country for dogs.  Their lives are worth less than nothing.  As an Atlas dog, or local breed, they roam the streets, scavenge to find scraps, and wait for the day where the police come to shoot them.  Yes.  They are left half-dead on the pavement and die of horrific wounds and infections.  If they are “lucky” enough to live on a farm, they do not receive medical care or proper food.  Their “best” option is to be tied on a rooftop to act as a guard; these dogs are often the most “well-cared for.”  In parts of the country, dogs are eaten.
