GREAT NEWS…. Lin aka Linda is HOME!! Linda was rescued from the streets of Albania. She is now a family member of Chris Schlosser of Wauwatosa, WI.

Thanks to Erza, Oli, and Elizabeth of “Animals Need Me” she was rescued and given this wonderful opportunity.

Lin took to Chris immediately and hugged her legs followed by kissing. It was a done deal. Chris fell in love instantly. These two were made for each other and I have no doubt they will have many happy years together.

Thanks to Abby Jones for funding part of the transport cost and to All who helped in her journey – especially Animals Need Me Organization. It’s safe to say many people are doing “happy dances” for her around the world.

You too can save a life.

Hello everyone! My name is Linda and I am 3 years old now. My rescuer Oli told me that I will be ISDF’s first rescue from Albania! I’m so excited to begin my new American life. Here is my story:

I don’t remember if our mommy was a stray dog and we were born on the street or if she had a family and after we were grown a little they abandoned us. But I remember that two nice ladies took me and my sister in their car. They brought us to an old abandoned house that had a magical yard, full of flowers and mystery and several other friendly rescued dogs. Everyday Oli would come to feed us and we all couldn’t wait for her. We ate quickly so we could show her how much we were happy to see her. Sometimes I heard her having discussions with the neighbors because of our barking. But we did that only when we saw a cat passing.

Anyway, one cold day I ate something and felt so dizzy. The others ate it too. I was rescued by Oli. For most of my friends and my sister it was too late. The vet came immediately and treated me with injections. Because of the poisoning, for a while I couldn’t see or get my bearings, so I stayed at Oli’s house till I got better. Once I recovered, Oli brought me to the shelter.

Here we are safe, but it is so different: no garden, no flowers, only concrete. Two of my friends and fellow survivors live with me in the “friendliest run”; together, we welcome all the volunteers and guests to the shelter. I love adults and kids—really everybody—as long as they are kind, and I get along great with other dogs. Oli shared my story online multiple times and even brought me to a fair to try and find me a home, but no one fell in love with me. Oli can’t understand why I haven’t found a family yet; I am smart, pretty, energetic, friendly, and I have endless amounts of love to give and share. One of my best talents is hug-giving. I don’t want to stay in this concrete run forever. Please adopt me and add magic, gardens, and comfy furniture back to my life!

There are thousands of street dogs in Albania, many of whom were abandoned by their families. Everywhere you look, there are mistreated, poisoned, diseased and malnourished dogs left to die in the streets, or used for dog fighting. The situation is desperate but not widely known because Albania is a small country with little exposure to foreign travelers. The government does not devote resources to spay/neuter or vaccination, so the problem has escalated. The Albanian people, who for decades suffered through oppressive governmental regimes, see the dogs as a nuisance or worse, and abuse is far too common.

Animals Need Me (http://www.animalsneedmeal.com/), ISDF’s newest rescue partner, is based in the city of Shkoder, Albania. It was founded by devoted animal lovers who have organized spay/neuter efforts, and seek to find loving local homes for former street dogs. They are sometimes able to find homes for the puppies, but few locals want to adopt grown dogs. To house the dogs who don’t find homes, they built a small shelter, but the budget is tight, and feeding dozens of dogs is expensive. In hopes of freeing up space in the shelter for more needy dogs, they want to find homes in the U.S. for some of their friendliest residents.
