GREAT NEWS…. Lucky is HOME! Lucky is a rescue from New Delhi who was found near death with ears detached. Luckily Jagriti KA wasn’t about to let that happen. She nursed her back to health and sent her to Chicago in hopes of finding a loving family. Today Lucky and Jagriti’s dreams came true.

Lucky is now part of Dan and Nicolle Turner’s (of McHenry, IL) family. They actually came to meet another dog but Lucky chose them and made it clear from the start that she was their dog. Lots of tail wags and kisses for all. How could they say no! Even their 2 year old daughter was smitten with her and vice versa. It was a love fest!

And the love continues…. she is settling in well at her new home and continuing to flourish love on them.

This just goes to show miracles can happen and have for this very special girl who was given a second chance at life thanks to the efforts of many caring people especially Jagriti and Meredith K. Allen.

Most importantly thank you to the Turners for making Lucky’s dreams come true – to love and to be loved. ❤️❤️.

You too can save a life.

LUCKY’S Rescue Story

Namaste!  My name is Lucky, and it certainly fits!

I was found living outside a Temple in New Delhi, India in the fall of 2016 when I was about 3.5 months-old.  I was in unimaginable condition; look at my photos, but you won’t believe it.  One of my ears was completely missing, and my other ear was dangling from my head.  My wounds suggested that someone attacked me.  Since I received no treatment for the injuries, maggots and ticks took over my body.  No one knows how long I sat and waited at the temple before a kind person finally called to report my condition.

Finally, an animal lover brought me to her home and began initial treatment of my horrific state.  I was only in her care for a week, though; this compassionate woman lived in a “society” (an apartment community) where she was being harassed for welcoming such an ugly, gross-looking dog.  Her neighbors gave her an ultimatum to remove me.  Unfortunately, these stories of harassment are commonplace for New Delhi’s animal welfare supporters.  For both our safety, she contacted Kannan Animal Welfare (KAW), and the staff immediately received me with open arms.

The KAW team faced an uphill challenge with my recovery.  I was extremely weak and dehydrated with very low HB counts.  My entire body was full of raw wounds.  Mentally, I was very uncomfortable being touched; you can see in my photos how I was trying to become “small” to avoid everyone and everything.  I responded the same way to other dogs.  I growled a lot if any of the other dogs at the KAW recovery center tried to approach my crate.

It took months of treatment and practice to introduce me to the pack at the center.  Finally, my comfort and confidence – as well as my health – had so significantly improved that the KAW team took me to adoption event!  I was extremely curious and wanted to say “hello” to everyone who stopped by my crate!  There were a lot of different sounds, smells, and activities at the event, and the staff was surprised and thrilled at how well I handled it.  There was a little “rest area” at the event where the team took dogs who needed some space, either due to excitement or stimulation.  Not one time did I need to have a break!  The staff was so proud of me!

I am a survivor, and now, my growth and development proves I am also a friendly, smart, playful girl who is ready to find my Forever Home!  I am thriving in a wonderful foster home and learning how to accept and trust people and dogs.  In my foster home, I play with another foster pup and a young child.  Yes, I do not have ears, my right eye has minimal vision, and I have numerous scars from my past.  But, that’s exactly where these tragedies will stay.  I am ready for my future!  Are you in it?

Lucky is arriving in Chicago from New Delhi May 12.
