Hi my name is Sisi and I am a 1 year old girl who was born on the streets of Armenia. I was named Sisi after a beautiful Armenian town on the Vorotan River. They say I am quite beautiful so I guess the name is fitting.

I love other dogs, and people and even cats! I am good on leash walking and even cage trained.

I am current on vaccinations, microchipped and spayed.

More info coming…. I arrive on April 22, 2021 from Armenia into Chicago.

This is my rescue story written by my rescuer Ruzik. Thanks for reading.

My name is Sisi. I am 1-year-old dog from Yerevan/ Armenia. Me and my two sisters were found in a box which were left next to a garbage bin. We were very afraid as you can imagine, with no food and nothing to drink. People were passing by and paying no attention to us, as if we were a trash. Every time we saw a human being we were hoping they will take us to our mother. Days passed I was trying to survive by collecting some food for me and my sisters but it was very difficult. One day, to our surprise a nice lady approached and took us. We were stressed as we did not know what will happen the next. Will she take us and throw to another place, were we making noises which disturbed her or will she maybe save us? So many thoughts passing through our mind. The lady took us to a place where people with white coats started looking at us, checking something, giving us some treats. We felt so secure already. The journey continued as the lady took us to a place that felt so warm, like a home. She fed us and as we were so tired we just fall asleep. The morning after was the best, as we walk up not to the noises of cars passing by but because of the smell of a food. The lady took us afterwards to a nice place, with big garden where we met other dogs. We had a joyful time as we made friends and started playing. It became our home and the lady would visit us from time to time bringing us presents and tasty treats. After couple of months my two sisters found their foster families in USA. I was so happy and sad at the same time. I was happy to know that they found a caring and loving family but sad at the same time knowing that I will not see them again. I am sure they are doing great now as I feel deep inside my heart. Then one day the lady took me to an interesting place full of airplanes. The day came also for me. I would never imagine that I would take a plan and go to Chicago to a different continent. A lady named Dawn Trimmel is now taking care for me. I feel a little bit shy but I am sure Dawn will help me to find a caring and loving family.

Armenia is a country in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia. The country has many things to be proud of, however stray dogs are one of the weakest points of Armenia. Unfortunately, killing is the main method of controlling the number of stray dogs instead of  sterilizing them as should be done. To show how cruel is the situation, from 2015-2017 only in one of the small cities in Armenia 275 dogs were killed.  There is no law regulating how animals should be treated, only a few separate articles in different codes, like the Code of Administrative Offenses. Well, in most of the parks it is even prohibited to walk the dogs. Hopefully the current government will try to change the situation, however change happens slowly and until that time comes, many thousands of Armenian dogs will be killed and continue to suffer on the streets.

There is a company, which was awarded a government contract to solve the stray dog problem.  The Yerevan Municipality continues to pay the same company millions to take care of stray dogs in the Armenian capital. However, nothing changes. Animal rights activists in Armenia have long claimed that the company who was awarded the contract isn’t doing its job properly and that the municipality continues to squander taxpayer money by awarding contracts to Unigraf-X.
