Nena is a 2 year old, 35-lb, spayed female who has born on the busy streets of Phuket. Remarkably, she survived to young adulthood without incident until the day a car slammed into her, and left her to bleed to death still in the road. Somehow – through sheer will to survive – she managed to drag herself to relative safety in the street’s gutter. Compassionate passersby intervened and brought her to the Soi Dog Foundation, where vets repaired her broken front leg and nursed her back to health with a combination of top notch medicine and TLC.
Nena was healed but could no longer live on the streets, as she would likely not be able to sustain a second road injury. She was integrated into the large general population at SDF, but encountered challenges right from the start. Nena became the ‘underdog’ and was constantly picked on my other dogs. Her submissive personality led her to hide constantly. SDF knew she must find a home – and soon. They mounted an aggressive adoption campaign on her behalf.
Nena was adopted by a family in the midwest USA a few weeks ago, but unfortunately she was unable to live with the two resident terriers. One day, while Nena was in her favorite spot (a high perch atop the sofa), the resident dogs attempted to interact with, or approach, her. A fight broke out and the elder terrier was injured. No one is certain what triggered the altercation, as they did well with one another til that point. They were unsupervised at the time, so it’s difficult to know what caused the tension but Nena was newly adjusting to life in a home and under a great deal of culture shock, so the possibilities are many. Nena’s adopter was understandably uncomfortable about keeping her so SDF reached out to International Street Dog Foundation to help Nena find a real home at long last.
ISDF is thrilled to meet this sweet, smart, affectionate survivor and excited to help her find a loving forever family she can finally call her very own! You can read Nena’s full story here.
