Hey, hold on, stop! Did I hear you say you like spots? Well then, I am the perfect dog for you! My name is Obi! I’m a 6 month old, black-and-white, desi street dog from New Delhi, India. Even though I look like a handsome little calf, my resemblance to India’s sacred cows has never done me much good. So I’m off to the greener pastures of the American Midwest to start anew!
I’m an eager student, excited to continue my education; housetraining and walking on a leash have been going very well! I love being around people, and once I get to know a dog, it’s hard to get me to stop playing. I do well riding in cars, too. I have loads of puppy energy, and an equal amount of puppy love—if your life could use more fun, Come and meet me!
On a more serious note, here’s the story of my mama’s rescue, as told to me by my own fairy godmother, Jyoti: My mother Hope was in a terrible car accident on a busy road, and was unconscious when Jyoti rushed her to the CGS Veterinary Hospital with skull fractures and a dislocated jaw. It was over 6 hours before she finally regained consciousness, and she remained in critical condition for several days. Once Hope stabilized, doctors discovered she was pregnant, and after a few more days Jyoti was able to bring my mama home.
Amazingly, considering all she’d been though, my mama gave birth to 6 beautiful puppies near the very start of 2018, including me! Jyoti tried hard to find us homes in India for over 3 months. Despite Jyoti’s persistance, she couldn’t find enough suitable adopters. Now, through Jyoti’s partnership with ISDF, I’m flying to Chicago with my brother Pinto and my sister Sriracha. Jyoti says our forever families are waiting for us there, for sure. Paws crossed, I’ll go home with you soon!

Desi (day-see) dogs live on the city and village streets of India, with an estimated 400,000 in the capital Delhi, alone. Also called Indian Native Dogs or Pariah Dogs, these dogs have changed little over thousands of years. Desi dogs are highly intelligent, alert, good-looking, athletic, and full of character. Many urban Desi dogs have recent European breed ancestry too, along with sighthound sleekness and speed.
