Pre-Adoption Rescue Story

Isobel, Patches’ rescuer, told us her story:

“On February 21, 2015, I was visiting my usual shopping market in New Delhi, India when a porter asked if I could assist with a sick street puppy.
He brought a sweet little female puppy over to me and I immediately noticed she was very dehydrated. He explained that she had been vomiting and having diarrhea for three days. In that time, she had been unable or unwilling to eat or drink anything.
I took her to the vet’s office immediately. She was treated for a gastrointestinal infection, and given medicine to relieve a bad cough and runny nose. I named her Patches, for the distinctive splotches on her coat.

Patches boarded at Happy Paws Medicare Boarding Centre during the course of her treatment, and was released back to the market in late April. She was a very sweet puppy who enjoyed playing with the other dogs, and it seemed she was destined for life as a desi dog.

However, upon visiting her the following weekend, I found a different dog. Patches was terribly frightened. I hoped it was a temporary condition; however, it was decided that a further visit should be made.

Shortly afterwards, on May 20 while I was on holiday in the UK, Arti of Happy Paws visited the market. She sadly reported back to me that she could not find Patches anywhere.
Worried for her sake, Arti kindly went again the following day. It was an action that may have saved her life – Arti did mange to find Patches, but she was covered in dog bite marks, and locals reported that she had not been eating anything (possibly prevented from eating by other dogs bullying her) and had become quite ill.

Patches returned with Arti to her medical boarding facility, Happy Paws, where her bite wounds and a stomach infection were successfully treated.  It was agreed that she would never return to the marketplace again, and instead remain in boarding until a home could be found for her somewhere.

On June 29, Patches was transferred into the loving foster home of Neha. There she has been working on house manners and leash-walking.
Due to her time at the market, she arrived quite nervous and insecure – but after staying with first Arti, and now Neha, she has become very friendly and loving. She can still be a little wary of strangers until she gets to know them, but is learning more and more with each passing day that the world is a safe place, after all.”

Patches arrived into Chicago on January 12, 2016 in search of her forever home.

Patches is a docile girl and is playful inside the house. She has a happy go lucky demeanor and loves to play with other dogs.  She has an inquisitive personality and is very smart.  She can be a little shy at first with strangers but warms up very quickly.
She is a happy girl who loves to spend time with people.  She is quick to approach people for pets.  She has wonderful house manners, is potty trained and cage trained.

Patches has boarded with other dogs and is used to children. She was spayed on September 20 and is fully vaccinated. ISDF would love to see this sweet, shy gal in a wonderful forever home of her very own. She has known so much hardship and it would be great to see her home in a loving home of her own at last.
