GREAT NEWS…..BENTLEY ..AKA SCOOBY IS HOME!!!

Sunday Scooby joined Kady and Jon Duncan of Woodstock, IL. Scooby is a former street dog from the New Dehli, India. He was hit by a car at a young age and spent several months in foster car with Sonia and Dieter Heller before coming to Chicago to find his forever home.

Kady and Jon were looking for a special dog to join their family. They have thought long about what type of dog would be most likely to thrive given their lifestyle – they wanted a dog who would cuddle and also active enough to partake in playtime and long hikes. Such a responsible couple who had done their homework and asked all the right questions. It’s safe to say they found the perfect match with Scooby … Now named Bentley.

Thank you Sonia and Dieter for rescuing this special guy and providing him such loving care at your home while he awaited his long journey to the USA.

Most importantly, thank you to Kady and Jon for making Bentley’s dreams come true!

cooby’s Story

One of our Indian rescue partners, Isobel Grant, sent us this compelling account of Scooby’s rough beginnings:

After moving this past February, I noticed a little puppy in the service lane at the back of my flat. He was quite scared of humans and didn’t let me handle him – but he would come near me with some coaxing.
I found out from Seema, his caretaker, that he was born on October 23, 2014, and was one of six puppies born to a street dog named Ruby sole survivor of his litter.
In April, Ruby was spayed. The following day, I received a call from Seema saying that Scooby was missing – she had not seen him for 24 hours. Worried, we searched for him to no avail. The following day, thankfully, I spotted him back in the street. We decided to leave him, hoping he would be okay until his mother returned.
But towards the end of that week, he went missing again. We searched for him with no luck.
Finally – nearly two weeks later, on April 20 – I spotted him behind some parked cars. This time when I called to him, he came over to me wagging his tail. Unfortunately, he was also whining loudly. Upon examination, I realized his back leg was injured. Seema and I took him to Happy Paws Medicare Boarding Centre, both so that his leg could be examined and also to get him off the streets, preventing further injury.
The vet felt strongly that Scooby’s injury was the result of malicious intent and not a simple road accident. Due to a history of violence towards desi dogs on that street, Seema and I felt it was for the best that Scooby never again return.
Little Scooby stayed with Aarti at Happy Paws for a few weeks to assist in his recovery. In May, he was moved to the beautiful farm of fosterers extraordinaire, Sonia Heller and family, where his treatment continued.
Scooby’s leg is now much better! He walks with a slight limp, but fully uses the leg, placing it on the ground as he moves. He is a very sweet, playful boy and has become best friends with Haddi, one of her other rescues.”

Sonia Heller, Scooby’s foster mom, adds:

“Scooby is a very friendly and social dog! He is fond of people and loves to spend time with them.
He is also very attentive towards small puppies – and even friendly with our four cats!
One of his legs is slightly shorter than the other due to his injury when he was a puppy; that doesn’t prevent him from running and racing with our ‘super runners’, Axel and Slash, proving he is an excellent race competitor and as able and fit as any other dog!

ISDF is thrilled to have Scooby in Chicago, and is seeking an amazing forever family that will embrace this sweetheart for the rest of his life .Scooby arrived into Chicago from India on November 20th.  Scooby is doing wonderful in his foster home with Thomas Moreau.  He has great house manners and is house trained.
