Scooby’s Rescue Story

Scooby dooby-doo… where are you?!  I’m here!  And, I can’t wait to meet you!

I am a handsome, affectionate, energetic three year-old dog from New Delhi, India.  I traveled a long way in the fall of 2015, and I was adopted that October by an awesome Dad.  Let me tell you how lucky I am to have this guy who loves me so much; he is putting my needs first.  Recently, he wrote, “I love Scooby dearly, and it is with a heavy heart that I’ve come to the conclusion that Scooby would thrive in another environment that I am unable to provide at this stage of my life.  I believe he could make great progress in a home with a more stable daily life in a quiet, more spacious atmosphere with someone who can take the extra time to work with him.”  I am sad about this change – yes – but moreover, I am thankful to have been surrounded by supportive people my whole life.  Life is full of changes, and I’m an eager, loving boy ready to find my Forever Home!

I have a ton of wonderful qualities that will immediately impress you!  I enjoy running, and I make a super running partner.  The more space or opportunities for me to run, the better!  I adore playing with my toys… and then chewing them.  (Who doesn’t?!)  When I am near people I am calm and happy, and I seek out other people and pets for lots of love.  I thrive in places that are spacious and with routines that are familiar.

If I were human, I might exhibit characteristics of a person who has ADHD.  I can get overwhelmed with bigger groups and newer situations, especially if the situations are high-energy.  Sometimes, I have difficulty processing all the noise and conditions around me.  I do best in calmer, consistent settings with people who know me.  My Dad says, “Once Scooby gets to know you well, he will love you forever.  The more trust that Scooby has in a person, the quicker he blooms into a wonderful little friend.”  What a great compliment!

My ideal family should have the time needed to provide me with a stable, yet active lifestyle.  Sometimes, young children make me nervous, so I should have older human siblings or none.  I am well-behaved with most dogs and would be ok with a dog sibling, but we should spend time together first just to be sure.  I am very fond of older dogs!

So, let’s review!  I’m a terrific young adult dog who survived the streets of India.  I am in search of an enthusiastic, loving family who will provide me with structured guidance and tons of exercise.  I know you’re out there!  Let’s go running soon!

Desi (day-see) —or Indian— Dogs live on the city and village streets of India.  There are an estimated 260,000 street dogs just in the capital, New Delhi.  Also called Indian Native Dogs or Pariah Dogs, these incredible animals are intelligent, good-looking, athletic, and full of character!  In India, the dogs face extreme temperatures (damp, chilly winters and 115-degree summers), cars and other fast vehicles, disease, monsoons, and violence from people, as well as other street dogs.  Some “community dogs” are sterilized, vaccinated, and fed by volunteers, while most street dogs experience indifferent cultural attitudes and survive on their own efforts and luck.  Litters of pups are often drowned, buried alive, stoned, or removed from their mothers.  Most citizens do not know about dog sterilization and vaccination, and if they do, many cite religious beliefs against spaying/neutering.  In the cities, there is major cultural interest in the “superiority” of “purebreeds.”  Unfortunately, the labs, pugs, Dobermans, St. Bernards, boxers, and German Shepherds are frequently abandoned as many families do not have the funds, space, and knowledge about responsible long-term dog ownership.

Age and Weight: 3 years and 40 pounds
