Hello there! My name is Simba and I’m a four month old boy born in the deserts of Qatar. I will be traveling to Chicago on February 26, 2019 with my sister Nala to find my forever home. Upon arrival I will be fostered in Wadsworth, IL. Here is my story. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read it.
Like many dogs in this country, my siblings and I didn’t have a lovely home to start our lives in. I was born on a construction site and luckily some of the workers there looked after me and my family. They gave us food and water which was great! One day, the boss did something horrible to our dad and one of my brothers, so the other workers contacted a group called Paws Rescue Qatar and explained they could no longer keep us safe. I never saw my dad or brother again and it makes me sad. The Construction boss at the site felt the dogs were a nuisance and chopped their legs off and threw them in the desert to die. Sounds horrible beyond words but this is the fate many street dogs around the world face, especially in Muslim countries.
Thankfully, Paws Rescue Qatar came straight to my rescue! We all went to the vet to have a check up and make sure we were OK. After that we went on a car ride to their retreat where lots of other dogs and cats live. It can be really noisy with all the other dogs, but I get along with them fine. I mostly play with other puppies my age.
Now I’m getting older and bigger, I’m ready to leave mum and find my own family! I love it when volunteers come and play with us, and I enjoy getting cuddles from them. I’m starting to learn to walk on a leash too and I’m so excited to see what the world has to offer!
I’ve had all my vaccines (they hurt!) and my tablets and what not to fight off any worms/ticks or fleas! I haven’t been spayed yet as I’m still too young. My mum weighs about 38 pounds and I think Dad was just a little bit more so I don’t think I’ll grow too big.
I have a sweet somewhat shy personality. I am very gentle and I learn quickly. I really don’t know what it’s like to be a pet dog and to relax and play and feel secure. I will respond quickly to love and patience and will flourish in a loving forever home. Please give me a chance and I will show you how much joy I can bring to your family.

Paws Rescue Qatar is one of just a couple non-profit organisations in the nation dedicated to animal welfare. They help injured and abused strays by treating, rehabilitating and re-homing them, as well as helping abandoned pets. We live in a country that is rich by wealth, but in terms of compassion for animals and animal welfare- not so much. We often see racing, hunting, and fighting dogs discarded at the end of seasons. Often once loved pets are dumped when they are too big to carry in a handbag and are no longer a cute little puppy. Due to the stigma attached to owning pets in the country most of our animals travel overseas. It is very difficult to find good homes for street dogs in Qatar and oversees adoption tends to be their only chance at finding a loving homes and leading fulfilled lives. At present Paws Rescue Qatar has around 100 dogs and 150 cats at their shelter, with more in foster, vet clinics and on the streets. Although they can’t house and “save” them all they do provide food and vet care for many dogs living on the streets. They aim to raise awareness of animal welfare by educating the public on animal welfare and working with the government on TNR programs.
