Great News! Dakota aka Turbo is HOME with Marge Cole from Woodstock, IL. Marge’s dog passed away recently and her home feels emply. She is heartbroken and wants to bring another dog into her home to help fill the void. When she saw Turbo she said he was a spitting image of her late dog. So far Marge tells me he is doing wonderful. He has been very well behaved and her grandson and Turbo together often. He has started his training and is a star pupil. Marge said everyone loves Dakota and he is very smart and well behaved. He goes almost everywhere with Marge and he has become her best friend. It sounds like a match made in heaven.
Pre-Adoption Rescue Story
My name is Turbo, they named me Turbo because I was found in a gas station in Istanbul turkey where cars zipping around. I was 2 months old, looking for warmth under the cars and their turbo engines I was hungry, emaciated, confused and wet. In one dark cold night I was about to be run over by a car, when a loving savior got out of his came by me and looked at me, saying nice things to me, then went inside and asked everyone, they told him that I was there for a week or so, no one was feeding me, because it was a fancy gas station, I had to try to survive on bread crumbs and fast food leftovers, that’s what they told my savior too. He took me in his car; who would know that the car that almost killed me was the same car that saved my life. We went to see a very nice lady her name is Simge.
She took care of me for a while, carried me around took me to the vet and fed me great food. I was very happy imagining that I found my forever home and Simge is going to be my mom, but she couldn’t keep me, because she is very busy rescuing other dogs and cats, I ended up in a kennel but she kept visiting me. Then I knew that I will never ever find my forever home, I grew up to be 1 year old, I am a mutt of some kind, my mother and father are unknown, I do not remember either of them, I had been a street dog from birth, some kids dropped me at the gas station and walked away, all I know from humans is their kicking feet, and their terrible yelling and their harassment. But I’ve learned from my foster mom and the people in the kennel, that nice hearted people do exist and one day I will end up in a caring and cuddly home. As I mentioned earlier, I am 1 year old, super nice, loving, playful, I love other dogs very much, I love playing with them, children are my pals and cats are never my enemies. I am neither a barker nor a chewer. Good on a leash and crate trained. I have made my way around among many dogs to be sent to ISDF. I am fixed male, all shots complete and healthy young boy. Some think I’m a handsome and charming, but that is not important, I have a big heart waiting to be loved forever.
People in Turkey love puppies like anyone in the world, they buy them from petshops or remove them from the streets, and later when the dog grows and starts chewing on their belongings or become rumbustious, or even because their hair is too much in the house, they get to be kicked out back to streets or forests. Mutt street dogs in Turkey however are not appreciated, the chances for them to find homes are 1 out of 1000, they are unwanted dogs specially in homes. Purebreds have more chance than street dogs; they are bought from pet shops, which might be connected in supporting puppy mills.
People also have no consideration that those dogs will not survive in the wild, their imagination is that they will hunt and survive, however their knowledge is so little to know that when you raise a dog in captivity and pamper it, you can’t expect it to turn into a hunter in a sudden move.
My foster mom and my other saviors are making all the efforts to save me because they want to create a major awareness for the Turkish people to pay attention to their own street dogs and care for them rather than buy from petshop and not to support a breeder or a puppy mill. We “mutts” also deserve to be pampered and cuddled like any other pure bred dogs.
As for shelters; they are packed with animals, maybe 700- 800 some of the dogs spend most of their lives over there, because they are no kill shelters. Some of them are horrible, due to neglect of the city municipals. Some shelters do depend on volunteers, along with the streets dogs and forest dogs; those good-hearted volunteers work day and night to take care of these animals. The lives of those poor dogs depend on the mercy of the volunteers in general, whether it is for feeding or medical care, it’s for the individuals whom do care and love those dogs.
Turbo is 1 yr old, 50 pounds, neutered, and microchipped. He is in perfect health and ready to find his forever home. He has so much love to give if only given the chance. He will make a loyal and loving companion to a very lucky family.
Turbo arrived in Chicago on June 16, 2016 in hopes of finding his forever home. He has since been in foster care in Wonder Lake, IL. He is a very happy trusting dog who has taken to life in a home wonderfully. He already knows basic obedience and is fully potty trained. He gets along very well with the other fosters and is always happy to meet new people. He loves to play with other dogs and would do best in a home with another dog to play with and a fenced in yard to run in. He is a loyal companion who will bond quickly with a new family and be eager to share his love and companionship with “his people”. He is cage trained. He to play fetch and would be a great Frisbee dog! Could he be the dog for you? Could you be the ones to turn his story into a fairy tale ending? He is patiently waiting for you.
