This is a letter we received from Erin and Jim Gallagher who recently adopted Crash.
All of the dogs that Dawn brings to the US are either rescued street dogs or dogs rescued from the dog meat trade.
We see here in the US so much sadness in the news regarding how animals are treated, but we also are seeing a shift in the laws against animal abusers and the penalties they face.
Overseas, this just isn’t often the case. Street dogs (strays) are purposely poisoned, slaughtered in public, treated with disgusting violence with no repercussions. In the worst cases, dogs are captured and sold to dog meat farms. Boiled alive, skinned alive. Everything I have learned since beginning this journey has been heartbreaking, but every single night we watch Crash fall asleep in bed between us and she literally falls asleep smiling.
She is so happy, so thankful, just so good. These dogs, they may come to your home confused, scared, unsure. She still doesn’t understand her toys or a lot of things. But she does understand that she is safe and that this is her home forever, we can tell. She is so happy and this has been such a life changing decision for us.
To Dawn who is the reason this foundation exists and who I truly could never have enough great things to say about, Wani Muthiah who is the reason Crash is alive and who spends her time protecting countless animals in Malaysia (everyone please follow Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better) and to Fadhillah Ariffin! A new friend and the sweetest soul who went to Malayisa and brought back our sweet girl. And who also coincidentally lives where I am from!? (fate)
These are the people that I want to focus my energy on. These are heroes and I am so changed and forever grateful from this experience.
