The American Veterinarian Medical Association has a very informative article on helpful tips for caring for our pets in cold weather. Most of us are aware of the risk of hot weather and the risks of leaving your pet in a warm car but cold weather risks don’t get as much publicity. However the risks are real and we should all be aware of the precautions we should take to keep our loved pets safe during cold weather.
I thought this would be very timely to post this as we are experiencing record breaking low temperatures in the Midwest this week. Although most dogs love the cold weather and playing in the snow there are safety precautions that should be taken to keep your pet safe. I am always amazed at how much dogs love the snow even if they come from tropical or desert climates as many ISDF rescues do. Please stay warm and make sure your pet does too!
