A fascinating account of some of the challenges and joys of living with a street dog. Lisa Tenzin-Dolma a leading expert in free-ranging street dog psychology and behavior, shares with us her experience and learnings from working with these amazing animals.
Please keep in mind much of what she talks about is from the perspective of a dog taken right off the street. Most of ISDF’s rescues have been assessed, observed, and cared for by humans before coming to the US to find their homes. The degree of adjustment for our rescues is usually much less however all of them go through major change and it would be helpful for every adopter to listen to this and understand a little more about why they are the way they are and how their past effects their present. I couldn’t agree more with her – to adopt any dog – especially a former street dog requires someone with patience, love and commitment. It is a journey however that will reap the most rewarding benefits if one takes this journey. A bond that is strong and incredibly precious that will make the journey more than worth it.
