Jute is a pup of the monsoon, India’s rainy season. He was born just a few days before the first rain, in late June 2014, one of a huge litter, perhaps eleven or twelve, in a crowded little market in New Delhi, India’s capital. The elements conspired against the litter. One by one pups vanished or succumbed to speeding vehicles. Only three survived: Jute and his two sisters, Lucy and Muskaan. The sisters made it to the U.S. much earlier, and found forever homes in Chicago and Detroit, respectively. Jute stayed much longer with a fostering family in Delhi. He is finally ready to cross the ocean.
He is healthy, trim, athletic and fun-loving. Light brown, his beautiful green eyes are known to have melted the ladies’ hearts. Racing in the park and wrestling amicably with fellow canines are his favorite activities.
Would make ideal partner for a young, energetic adolescent, not only because of his athletic proclivities but also because he craves affection and reciprocates it in abundance. Macho that he may be, nothing makes him smile more broadly than collapsing into his human’s lap. When he’s happy and feels safe – which is most of the time – he generously offers his belly for rigorous (but also gentle) petting, limbs fully extended, eyes firmly shut, his face assuming an expression of pure content.
He is well socialized with other dogs though his street experience has left him skeptical at times, at least upon initial contact. Surviving a bustling, not always friendly Indian marketplace is no easy task and forms certain habits and instincts. But he has had a significant amount of training, and more training as well as love and spacious environment to exercise his long legs would certainly make a great dog out of him.
He is a talker. When he needs your attention he masters syllables, that are distinct from mere barking. At such moments he is outright funny and charming.
Jute went into foster care with Meredith Allen in New Delhi on August 7th to prepare him for his trip to the US. Meredith is the final stop in Delhi most of our Desi’s go to prepare them for successful adoption. Meredith is a savior to many “Desi Dogs” in New Delhi and works very hard to help the dogs. Her first impression’s of Jute are “He is quiet, very smart, a lovely temperament, athletic, trusts people and follows their lead. He is handsome and healthy.”
Jute will be arriving into Chicago on August 25th with his rescuer Yoav Karny who will be personally transporting him here. A very touching gesture and poetic journey for the last of the pups of Jor Barg Lane. To read full story of the Jor Barg Lane pups click here.
