Pearl’s Happy Tail

Pearl, a survivor of the dog meat trade in Thailand was adopted in the fall of 2012 by Jessie and Charlie Trudelle.  Here is an update on Pearl from the words of her mom Jessie.  Jessie thank you so much for sharing this happy tail!

In Fall of 2012, my husband and I started to look for a doggy sister to our current dog, Ginny. While searching on Petfinder.com, I came across a heartbreaking story and a photo of two adorable puppies. Pearl and Perry had both been rescued by ISDF from the Thailand horrid dog meat trade and were looking for new homes. I contacted Dawn Trimmel with ISDF and was able to arrange a meet with the doggies. Pearl gave my husband a kiss within moments of seeing him and we were hooked. There were some minor reservations because she and Ginny had some issues to work out. However, within 24 hours though they were cuddling together on a single puppy bed. Pearl has been an absolutely amazing addition to our family and I’m so grateful to ISDF and Dawn for rescuing her and the others. She’s one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever met and loves to cuddle. She is a bit of a Princess and even likes to wear clothing (but she is picky about which articles of puppy clothes she’ll wear on a given day). One of my favorite things about her is that her preferred forms of positive reinforcement are being told she’s loved and/or laughter. She likes to make people laugh and if you laugh at one of her antics she’ll often repeat the behavior to bring joy and entertainment to those around her. For example, when learning to sit she often would put her front end down and leave her bottom in the air, wagging her tail like crazy. I found this funny and adorable so would always laugh. So she repeats that behavior randomly even though she knows the actual command. Another behavior that is uniquely Pearl’s is that she will pet us. She’ll put one paw in our hand for balance and then pet us with the other paw. Pearly loves people in general and suckers almost anyone she meets into pets and/or treats. I really can’t emphasize enough how glad I am that ISDF saved my baby and allowed her to be part of our family!
