GREAT NEWS….. JALAN is HOME! Jalan who was rescued from the streets of Oman and came to Chicago to find his forever family, took another long journey yesterday to the Upper Penninsula of Michigan with his new dad Owen Mills. His wife, Susan, and their two K-9 kids were waiting anxiously for the arrival of Jalan. Owen made the 7 plus hour trek with Jalan (who slept like a baby) and was home last evening. Dixie, their 2 year old rescue couldn’t wait to get outside to play with Jalan.
Jalan couldn’t have found a more perfect home… he loves the snow and he loves the outdoors. He also loves to play and now has a sister who matches his energy. The family loves to spend time outside and go for hikes in the beautiful north woods. Jalan has had a remarkable journey …. one could say it is the type of story for fairy tale books. He had a greater destiny in store for him which today was realized.
Thank you to Heather Drake for realizing Jalan’s potential and saving his life. Most importantly, thank you to Susan and Owen for opening up their home and hearts to this sweet boy.

Jalan was born on the streets of Muscat, Oman. He is known in his home country as a “wadi” dog and in general these dogs live a rough existence and often die a cruel death. They are shunned by many locals and worse abused. It’s common to see young kids throwing rocks at them. The police have open warrant to shoot and kill them for no particular reason even if they are not reported as a nuisance. Often the police don’t make a fatal shot and the dogs are left to die a slow painful death.
This young dog had the good fortune of crossing paths with Heather Drake, an expat who is teaching English in Oman. Heather was touched by his sweetness and trusting. She couldn’t bear the thought of him living out his life on the harsh streets most likely cut short. She reached out to ISDF to see if we could help.
This was 2 months ago and he is preparing now for his long journey to Chicago to find his forever home. He has been vetted, vaccinated, neutered, and attended obedience training. Heather is doing all she can to ensure his odds of success in his new home will be high. She is fostering Jalan in her home with her cat. Jalan has taken to the cat and seems to enjoy her company and her bed. Heather often finds him curled up in a small ball on her bed.
Founder, Dawn Trimmel journeyed to Oman to bring Jalan back to Chicago. They arrived in Chicago on November 27th. Jalan is being fostered in Wadsworth, IL.
Jalan is a very sweet boy who exudes joy. He loves to be around people and other dogs and even cats. It’s as if he’s just happy to be alive… which he should be. Thanks to Heather Drake who saved his life and contacted ISDF for help in homing. Yes, Jalan has guardian angels. Now he is here in the US to have the rest of his happy ever after unfold. If you are looking for a dog who will be a loyal companion and best friend this could be the dog for you. He even has been through obedience training and has his graduation certificate to show for it. He is potty trained and crate trained and has great house manners. He is current on vaccinations, microchipped and neutered. He will need a family who can give him sufficient exercise and ideally would have another K-9 companion to play with.
