GREAT NEWS…… Liberty is HOME!!!! Today Liberty was adopted by Tina and Larry Smothers of Chicago, IL. Liberty is a survivor of the brutal dog meat trade in Thailand. After being rescued she lived at #elfesworld on the island Koh Samui for the past two years. She has waited a very long time to find a family of her own and her happiness. Today her dreams came true! She hit the jackpot with Tina and Larry. Tina loved Liberty before she even arrived in Chicago. She was s…o excited she barely slept last night. She made matching scarves for them to wear. It is moments like this that make it all worth it. Saving one dog will not change the world but for that one dog the world is changed forever. Thank you Elfe for rescuing Liberty and giving her such loving care for the past 2 years. Most importantly thank you to Tina and Larry for opening your hearts and home to this special girl.

Meet Liberty!
This sweet two-and-a-half-year-old girl is a survivor of the brutal southeast Asian dog meat trade. She is one of the lucky ones whose smuggling truck was intercepted en route to Vietnam. There, she would have been sold to a dog butcher for approximately $30 and her story would have tragically already been long since ended.
After police apprehended her smugglers, she was transferred to a large government livestock shelter with many others in her shipment. Overcrowded and lacking basic medical and food supplies, most dogs perish there within 6 months of arrival.
Luck intervened when a kind supporter saw her photo online and paid her medical costs and airfare. This sponsored her transport out of the hell that was the livestock center, and to idyllic Elfes World, a dog sanctuary on the Thai island of Koh Samui where over 600 rescued dogs reside.
It is here that Liberty has lived since May of 2013. Although at Elfesworld she is now safe from harm, she has very little human interaction. There are few staff and visitor volunteers and so many dogs competing for attention every day.
Liberty spends her days longing for the touch of kind humans. After two and a half years, she has become very depressed without a home and humans to call her own. This breaks Elfe’s heart, since Liberty is such a sweetheart of a gal and would make a great companion for some lucky family. Elfe’s dream – and ours – is that she will soon find a home to call her own at long last.
Liberty loves people and wants nothing more than to cuddle as much as possible. She will hug visitors with her paws as if to say ‘I love you -please don’t leave me!’
Liberty resembles a small white golden retriever mix. She weighs approximately 40 pounds, and is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations.
Liberty will be arriving on August 23rd into Chicago from Thailand.
