Hi my name is Sadie and I was born on the streets of Armenia.
I am one year old and have been fostered with Sisi – she is my best friend.
I arrived in Chicago from Armenia on April 22, 2021.
Here is my rescue story as written by my rescuer Ruzik. Thanks for reading.
My name is Sadie. I am 1-year-old dog from Yerevan/ Armenia. When I was very little puppy, just one month old a car hit me. I know I was passing the street from the wrong place, as people have special places for them, but I was little and I did not know that. It is so complicated, why can’t we just walk and run wherever we want. It hurt me a lot, and I got many injuries. At some pint I thought I will be left there. Because of my fear and injuries, I just closed my eyes and the only thing I remember the next is opening my eyes and seeing some syringes around me and strange tools. A strange light was also hanging above my head; it was like a big sun but white.
I do not remember many things as I was sleeping and eating because I was very weak. Day by day I would recover and gain energy and strength. The only thing that stuck to my memory was a lady that followed me everywhere, gave me food and was talking to me in her language. As days passed by and I fully recovered the lady took me to a very nice place where I met many other dogs. I was so happy that I could run and play again without any pain. These people gave me a second life. I spent very happy days, as I did not worry about the food which we always had and also about the cars as we were in a secure place. I made great friends there and each one of them had passed through a difficult journey. One of my friend’s name was Sisi. I became close with her and we would talk and laugh all day long together. Sisi told me about her sisters that already found their families, and every evening before sleeping we would lie and imagine the day that we will also find a caring family for us.
One day, the lady who was always following me took me with Sisi to a place that humans call airport. At first I was afraid, however as Sisi was with me I felt secure. After few hours spent in a big plane we appeared in a different continent. I hope Sisi and I will find our families and will live a happy life. I am so excited, never felt so happy before.

Armenia is a country in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia. The country has many things to be proud of, however stray dogs are one of the weakest points of Armenia. Unfortunately, killing is the main method of controlling the number of stray dogs instead of sterilizing them as should be done. To show how cruel is the situation, from 2015-2017 only in one of the small cities in Armenia 275 dogs were killed. There is no law regulating how animals should be treated, only a few separate articles in different codes, like the Code of Administrative Offenses. Well, in most of the parks it is even prohibited to walk the dogs. Hopefully the current government will try to change the situation, however change happens slowly and until that time comes, many thousands of Armenian dogs will be killed and continue to suffer on the streets.
There is a company, which was awarded a government contract to solve the stray dog problem. The Yerevan Municipality continues to pay the same company millions to take care of stray dogs in the Armenian capital. However, nothing changes.
Animal rights activists in Armenia have long claimed that the company who was awarded the contract isn’t doing its job properly and that the municipality continues to squander taxpayer money by awarding contracts to Unigraf-X.
Well the circle of injustice is long and continual. Ruzanna was brought up in a family of animal lovers and currently has 3 dogs, a cat and a parrot at home. Her love towards animals is unconditional and she has been working hard for the past 10 years to help the dogs of Armenia.
She allocates more than 50 percent of her income to help the dogs, however as you could understand she alone, can not solve the huge problem of stray dogs in Armenia. Maybe she is able to help 1% and she wishes she could do more.
