My name is Teddy

And I am absolutely adorable, or so I’m told.  I am 7 months old and from Tunisia. When I was found, all alone and rummaging through trash for something to eat, I was only about 2 months old and no bigger than a toddler’s stuffed animal. Some mean people were about to dispose of me as trash myself, but my rescuer found me just in time. In October I’m flying to America!

I  don’t remember when or how I became separated from my mother and siblings–quite likely I was the only survivor, there are perils everywhere here. They say I was in bad shape when I was taken into care, but with attention and love I have thrived. All of my vaccinations are current, and I have already been neutered. I’m not house-trained yet, since I haven’t had a house, but I am a motivated student, and know I will l get it down fast. This week, I’m moving from my rescuer’s outdoor work-site into a dog hotel in preparation for my big trip. I’m finally getting to meet a sofa in real life!

People tell me I am a very good boy: quiet, happy, with a medium energy level, no aggressive tendencies, and surprisingly mellow for my age. I adore children and would love to grow up alongside human brothers and sisters, animal ones too–I’ve been an only child for too long! I like to play and need to chew, so appropriate toys, lots of games, and a good sense of humor are a big pluses!  My ears are soft and floppy, and I’m pretty sure I’ll always have a sweet face and puppy-dog eyes. While I may not be able to keep myself from tearing the stuffing out of some of my new toys, this Teddy (me!) has  a heart of gold, and I’ll love you forever and ever!

Tunisia is a country in North Africa, stretching from the Mediterranean Sea to the Sahara. Tunisia has more freedoms than its neighbors, but it’s a most unlucky country for dogs. Few Tunisians keep dogs as pets, some are worked on farms or chained to roofs as guard dogs, but most are ownerless scavengers, roaming the streets, searching for food and risking death daily from disease, violence, and purposeful, inhumane killing by the police and city workers. Native dogs are called Aidi, or Atlas dogs, and like Atlas, they carry the weight of the world on their shoulders.
