Reflections of an Adopter

Reflections of an Adopter

By Michelle Orcutt …………I often find myself looking at Diya in wonder, thinking how far she came to end up with me in St. Paul, MN. As strange as it seems that my little dog started life in Gurgaon, India, the Australian cattle dog and two Siamese-mix cats that also share my house each had at least one ancestor who made an equally implausible journey.

I think this (Waterlogue-apped) photo of rescuerAkanksha Joshi with her beloved Shiva (who has probably just arrived in Chicago from Mumbai as I type), sums up the beauty of international dog adoption. So much love, hope, and determination is poured into these dogs and puppies before being sent off to their new lives. They are the lucky ones, and so am I and these dogs’ other adopters.

Shiva is up for adoption through Dawn Trimmel‘s International Street Dog Foundation in Chicago.  I think Shiva has already stolen the heart of at least one potential adopter, but ISDF always has great dogs from all over–Thailand, Malaysia, Turkey, and Oman to name a few other countries of origin–and they can always use donations. Adoption fees only begin to cover veterinary care and transport costs. I can’t say enough about ISDF and its partners. Please read Shiva’s story in the comment below. She is a wonder dog for sure.
