A very informative news feature on the Baladi street dogs from Egypt. Those of you that own a street dog (which has descended from lineage after lineage of street dogs) will find many similarities in the Baladi dog. Street dogs take many shapes and forms because you have the true street dog or village dog and you have pure breeds that were purchased from Pet Stores and then put to the street when the owner no longer wants the dog. These pure breeds often breed with street dogs giving many unique mixed breed dogs. It is uncanny how similar true street dogs are regardless of the country or origin. Is it coincidence that they are typically very smart, healthy, have raised ears, athletic builds or have they evolved this way for survival? Regardless of the answer, they are treasures and typically make excellent pets. The key to success is training – just like with smart kids – the parents need to be smarter otherwise they will test their boundries and often step up to be pack leader which can result in unwanted behavior.
ISDF Founder, Dawn Trimmel, will be traveling to Egypt soon and bringing back 3 very lucky street dogs to be rehomed into the Chicago area.
